“New year, new me.” A quote we have all heard far too often year after year, after year, after year… You might even be guilty of that mindset. What exactly has changed within the last year though? NOTHING! Let’s discuss why nothing has changed and why nothing will change. More importantly, let’s understand what needs to change so that this year won’t be a repeat of last year.
You’re Not Self Driven
You don’t need auntie Becky to tell you to put down the cheeseburger, or coach LeRoy to ask why you weren’t at the gym yesterday. Being self-driven is critical to reaching any goal that you set to achieve.
You would be amazed by the number of people that set goals but are not working in harmony with reaching them simply for the fact that they may be tired, lazy, or just simply unmotivated. For some people, it takes hitting rock bottom, while for others, it takes drastic life-changing situations before snapping into action. Until you know how to be self-driven, chances are you will fail to reach your fitness goals.
Staying Organized Is a Nightmare
One of the biggest reasons as to why staying organized can be a nightmare is because you have way too many things going on at once. When it comes to fitness goals staying organized and consistent is absolutely critical to success. Try sticking with one goal at a time. Let your short-term goals be determined by what your long-term goals are. What does that mean? Let’s take a look at this scenario. Let’s say your long-term goal is to lose 100lbs. What you may want to do is focus on getting your diet right first. This will not happen overnight. You may even have a relapse where auntie Becky has to tell you to put down the cheeseburger again. Yet, you can rest assured that if you work on your diet and only focus on your diet for the next one or two months, you will get into a routine. Once you have a good handle on your routine, then focus on a steady gym schedule. You want to get good at one thing, then build off of it. If you try to do everything at once, you will realize it’s nearly impossible to be organized especially if you have a hectic life. You will be left feeling frustrated and unaccomplished.
You Do More Talking Than Actual Doing
Some like the idea of reaching their fitness goals and thinking about how they’re going to look in that hot new bikini or swim shorts.
You spend time telling all your friends, looking up pictures of fitness models, and daydreaming about how blissful life will be when you finally have that physique that you’ve been daydreaming about. Well hate to break it to ya, but it’s time to wake up. A lot of people don’t really care about your fitness goals. You’re like the broke college student that is graduating next semester. You tell everyone how you’re going to find the perfect job and then buy a Ferrari in two years. Two years later, you haven’t done a single thing to reach that goal. Instead, you’ve been partying your life away while living in your parent’s basement. Look, no one likes a friend that’s all talk and no go. Stop talking about what you want to do and take action right now. If you don’t take action, you are bound to fail to reach your fitness goals.
